A TEXTILE MEMOIR

I have gone back in time. Found my way in the world of textiles, especially the old and worn down garments. The afterlife is intriguing and has caught my eye. How can it be reused, given a new purpose and how can we show more appreciation/respect for what it is. The whole production process is extensive and very wasteful. Therefore we must show an honoration to end its lifecycle.

The first inspiration came from my work clothes. All the wear and tear after many hours of labour causes fading, distressing, paint splatter and glue stains. The old and worn-out apparel gives a lot of character and remensicense. Leftover clothes hidden in the back of closet has been the main focal point.

This leads to the second thought an addition to the production and value chain, more importantly how we consume clothing. A whole mindset and ingrained habits has to change to evovle for the better. A thought for the second thought.

Utilizing old garments from my early teenage years until now has been a personal seeking of identity, annecdotes and memories. As superficial as it gets material goods and belongings certainly do tell a story.
